Kistefossdammen kindergarten, Asker

Limited planning and design competitiom in  2014/15
Competition Draft in collaboration with Context AS and Bjørbekk & Lindheim landscape architects.

Kistefossdammen  kindergarten will be realized as a project within the FutureBuilt program. The kindergarten will accommodate about 100 children, and will be built as an energy-positive building.
Our draft "Origami" is divided into three building masses that define respectively toddler, child and flexi units. The three bodies are separated by open, intersecting "gaps" that opens vertically between floors. Special and common rooms are located along a longitudinal line through the three building bodies, with a large living room as an open spatial midpoint. This subdivision reflects a central strategy in the building's energy concept, where the three volumes contains "hot" features with controlled temperature, while the intermediate areas may have a greater variation in temperature and partially (large living room, fireplace room) based on temporary heating.

The shape of the roof reflects the plan's rhythm and provides high ceilings where desired or necessary. The roof provides sufficient south-facing surfaces at the correct angle for solar panels. And not least: The roof types give the kindergarten a distinct identity, and responds to the child's "archetypal" perception of what a house is.

The proposal was ranked # 2 in the competition.close >>
