The existing building was not considered suited for further development, and is demolished in its entirety. The new register building at the sea front has given the city a new signature and a modernised waterfront. A new harbour park reopens the axis of collimation from the city towards the sea. There is still potential for an upcoming construction stage towards the north.
The new building has a tall glass atrium in the middle with light going through it from the city to the waterfront. The atrium contains the main entrance, lobby and main staircase. The social zones are placed as "watering holes" on the landings. These have become attractive meeting points with lots of light, air and a grand view. The cafeteria with its associated roof terrace on the top has a spectacular view towards the great sea and Vega.
The project focuses on high quality while fulfilling the requirements of a modern specialist company. The building is BREEAM certified as Very Good. Solid and durable materials have been used, focusing on flexible workplaces and efficient operations.
The placement of the register in the city centre with its entrance near a public transport hub, modernisation of the road network and new cross connections reinforces the focus on green mobility and urban city life in Brønnøysund.
