The hospital is extended with a new wing, and the existing main building is remodelled for adaptation to new areas and changed operations. Outdoor areas are adapted to the new situation and developed according to the regulatory provisions.
All existing functions of the hospital have greater capacity thanks to interior remodelling, reorganising and extended area in the new annex. For the departments to become functional, it was important to create seamless transitions and the shortest possible working distance between existing buildings and the new annex. Therefore, the same roof heights were chosen for the new building as in the existing building from 1936, and this placed great demands on the planning and execution of technical facilities. The existing green structure is preserved, and the necessary interference with the existing landscape is kept to a minimum in order to preserve the green character of the forest and landscape around the hospital.
The project is developed together with the hospital in an interactive process where the restructuring of operations and design of the areas were important topics. There has also been close collaboration with the cultural heritage department of Viken County Municipality and the building affairs department of Bærum Municipality in order to meet the requirements of the detailed regulation.
